Bonus ko-fi chapter

Thinking this, Zhong Huan followed Xiao Li over.

Seeing him approach, Gao Feng sparred with Xiao Li as they let Ling Qing and Zhong Huan spectate.

“Got it?” They asked, “Now you try.”

Zhong Huan: …

Zhong Huan felt he didn’t get it, but at the very least, he had to be better than Ling Qing.

“Got it.” He said.

Naturally, Ling Qing had no issues with this so he swayed his fan and said, “Let’s go.”

Strike after strike, Zhong Huan was unable to differentiate. Was that strike coming from behind? Left? Nevermind, it’s the right.

Zhong Huan moved his sword to counter as Ling Qing raised his fan and disarmed him. “Wrong, it’s on the left.”

“Says who, it’s clearly on the right.” Zhong Huan bluffed.

From the sidelines, Gao Feng said, “It’s left. Zhong Huan, you’re wrong, do it over.”

Zhong Huan: …

Zhong Huan clenched his teeth in anger and started over, but couldn’t recall the following move. Was this supposed to be a thrust or a parry?

As he hesitated, there came a “snap” as Ling Qing struck his sword once more. “Too slow, you should have disengaged.”

Zhong Huan: …

Gao Feng piped in, “Zhong Huan, could be that you still haven’t memorized it?”

“Of course not.” Zhong Huan insisted, “I’m just not very proficient yet. Give me some time, okay?”

Gao Feng naturally understood. After all, he had been in this industry as a martial arts instructor for years.

“Then, Xiao Li and I will demonstrate again. Watch closely.”

Zhong Huan nodded hurriedly.

Gao Feng and Xiao Li quickly demonstrated again, specifically emphasizing the motions in the second half of the performance. They asked, “Got it?”

“Just about.” Zhong Huan replied.

“Then try it out with Ling Qing.”

Turning, Zhong Huan raised his sword to thrust at Ling Qing. After a while, Ling Qing relieved him of his sword again. “The other side.”

Zhong Huan was absolutely infuriated. Could he save some face? Why keep pointing out his wrongs!

“Let’s move over there.” He motioned with his chin.

Ling Qing was indifferent about this. Gao Feng tried to block them, but Ling Qing waved his fan. “It’s okay Instructor Gao, you can go teach other people. Let us practice on our own.”

After hearing this, Gao Feng let them go.

Choosing a place with few people, Zhong Huan and Ling Qing began to practice.

“Don’t hit my sword.” Zhong Huang said.

“Sure.” Ling Qing smiled slyly.

It was only then that Zhong Huan began to strike at him confidently. After exchanging several moves, Ling Qing found that he was making mistakes and hadn’t improved after repeated practice. Thus, he raised his fan and rapped him on the head.

Zhong Huan: ???

Zhong Huan: !!!

Zhong Huan was enraged. “What are you doing?”

“Isn’t that what you asked? For me not to hit your sword.”

“So you hit my head.”

“Your head isn’t too great.” Ling Qing implored, “Didn’t you notice that you’re making the same mistakes every time? Isn’t this just saying ‘I’m wrong but I’m still confident’?”

“Well, there’s nothing to be done about it.” Zhong Huan had actually discovered this, but even if he understood, there was no use. “Ths fight is so quick that even if I notice, I don’t have time to react.”

Thinking for a while, he decided, “Forget it. I already talked to Director Li and when it comes time to film, we’ll split it into three shots. We can just split it during the part where I mess up.”

Ling Qing believed he might have a different method. “You could, but there will be less continuity and tension during the fight. This scene on its own doesn’t hold much pressure, it’s only two people exchanging blows. Therefore, Instructor Gao arranged a more extravagant arrangement for the audience. Your method is passable, but it breaks the flow.”

“What do you know of the flow?” Zhong Huan raised an eyebrow at him. “Then, do you have another method?”

“Of course I have another method. I’ll just match your movements.”

“Can you?” Zhong Huan said disdainfully, “It’s not that I look down on you, but you’re just a newcomer. You don’t have the capability.”

Ling Qing laughed lightly, “You still have the gall to say you don’t look down on me?”

Hearing this, Zhong Huans eyes were filled with exasperation. “Isn’t this just a manner of speaking? Otherwise, what do you want me to say? Sorry, I look down on you?”

“Because I’m a newcomer?” Ling Qing asked.

“Because you came out of nowhere to grab the role.” Zhong Huan looked straight at him. “You aren’t from a small background, right?”

“I’m a Morning Rise artist. This is a Morning Rise investment. Me playing the male lead, what’s the problem?”

“Morning Rise has so many artists, to pick you, isn’t that a problem?”

“It’s simple. Because my acting is the best. My image is good, my appearance is great, and my acting beats everyone else. If not me, then who else?”

Zhong Huan was stupefied. “Never have I seen such an arrogant person!”

Smiling, Ling Qing said, “Well then, let’s start sparring and you’ll see why Morning Rise picked me.”

Zhong Huan gave him a mocking laugh.

Ling Qing remained tranquil. “Come, I’ll let you make the first move.”

Zhong Huan gave him a scornful look. “Then, here I come.”

He stared at Ling Qing. “Coming from someone who debuted earlier than you and who could be considered your senior, I kindly advise you not to be too arrogant. Otherwise, there will be others to teach you a lesson.”

As he finished saying this, his eyes became fierce, and he attacked.

Ling Qing calmly received his blow and, just as he was about to make a mistake, cleverly changed his movements. He snapped open his fan and guided the sword in a circle to connect with the next move.

This surprised Zhong Huan. The moment he looked up, he saw Ling Qing looking at him with a smirk.

Feeling somewhat embarrassed, his swordplay became increasingly poor. Ling Qing remained calm and continued to progress slowly until the end of the fight.

Zhong Huan was puzzled. “Have you done this before?”

Ling Qing shook the fan back and forth.

“Then, how?”

“Talent,” Ling Qing replied. “Like I said, I have great skills, not only in acting, but also in martial arts. Otherwise, why would Morning Rise suddenly decide to promote me?”

Zhong Huan couldn’t help but feel a bit astonished.

Seeing that he had nothing to say to this, Ling Qing went toward him and asked, “Do you still want to continue?”

Zhong Huan looked at him silently, not saying a word.

The two practiced for a bit, and when they hard Director Li calling for them, they returned.

“How is it? Can you film the scene?” Director Li asked.

“We can.” Ling Qing said.

Zhong Huan nodded.

To this, Director Li gave them a few words of motivation before filming commenced.

He originally believed that this scene would need to be filmed in parts and that it would need to be shot several times. After all, martial arts was difficult for young actors in this day in age.

However, he was surprised to find that the scene passed smoothly on the first shot.

Refusing to believe it, Director Li watched in on replay.

Standing next to him, Gao Feng also watched the playback on the camera, and discovered that Ling Qing had modified several of his moves.

He watched on and suddenly noticed that although Zhong Huan’s movements were still wrong, they weren’t noticeable anymore.

This was because Ling Qing’s connections were so smooth and flawless, it appeared as if the entire repertoire had been planned this way.

He realized that Ling Qing had decided to adapt for the sake of saving time and to ensure that the scene passed.

This was under the notion that Zhong Huan couldn’t correct his mistakes, so he decided to adapt instead.

He had put a lot of thought into it.

Surprise and appreciation could be found in Gao Feng’s eyes.

“Truly talented.” He smiled.

Director Li turned to look at him. “Who are you talking about?”

“Who do you think?” Gao Feng questioned back.

Director Li knew innately. “I didn’t know that this little fresh meat could catch your eye.”

“I have never discriminated against actors.” Gao Feng looked back at him. “It’s only that the previous fresh meats were too delicate, so I was never fond of them. But if there was ever an outstanding one, of course I would appreciate them.”

To teach martial arts was not an easy job. A good fight left people asounded while enjoying the visual arts.

However, the current status quo was that cut scenes and special effects were popular. Many newcomers were unwilling to waste their time learning complicated martial arts.

Instead, they merely wanted to pose for the scenes and leave the rest up to special effects.

There were very few like Ling Qing who were not only earnest, but learned fast and were already able to adapt to one another. Through their own experiences, they could modify their performances against their opponents in order to create a stimulating display.

It was rare to find someone with this time of mentality and ability.

Since Gao Feng was fond of him, he felt that he had a lot of potential.

The two passed by each other as they were leaving the set. Zhong Huan looked awkwardly at Ling Qing, as if he had something to say but was hesitant to say it.

Ling Qing was too lazy to guess his thoughts, and when he passed by, he raised his hand and rapped his head with the fan.

Enraged, Zhong Huan glared at him vehemently, wishing he could hit him back.

His agent Zhuo Sihui quickly ushered him back to his lounge and handed him a glass of water.

He had only taken two sips when he suddenly thought of something, muttering, “Buddha knocked on Sun Wukong’s head three times to tell him go to the third watch. Just now, he hit my head once. Could he be asking me to go to him during the first watch?”

“Who does he think he is, so arrogant.” Zhong Huan blustered.

Zhao Sihui didn’t hear him clearly and asked, “What did you just say?”

“Nothing.” Zhong Huan waved his hand, hesitating as he wondered whether to go.

Meanwhile, Ling Qing was sitting idly in a chair, sending messages to Yu Chen: [Miss me?]

Yu Chen happened to be reading a document when he heard his phone notify him. He picked it up and took a look, smiling.

Yu Chen: [You thinking of me?]

Ling Qing generously replied: [Of course I am, otherwise, why would I message you.]

Likewise, Yu Chen replied honestly: [Me too.]

Ling Qing: [I filmed with Qin Yanyu today.]

Yu Chen: [What do you think?]

Thinking for a while, Ling Qing said: [I think… Well, is this the best actress in our company? Her acting isn’t as good as I thought it would be.]

Yu Chen: [She looks good, and that’s what popular nowadays.]

Ling Qing laughed: [You think she looks good?]

Yu Chen: …

Yu Chen intuitively felt this was probably a trap.

Yu Chen: [Not that good looking.]

Ling Qing: [How good looking is not that good looking?]

Yu Chen was helpless: [Like the average person, very ordinary.]

Ling Qing crinkled his eyes. Looks like he still has the desire to live. If Qin Yanyu was ordinary, then there were many people who couldn’t even be counted as ordinary.

Ling Qing: [Then, do you think I’m good looking?]

This was a question Yu Chen could answer.

With no hesitation at all, he replied: [You’re especially good looking!]

Ling Qing laughed aloud.

Xiao Liu looked at him in confusion. “Brother Ling, what are you laughing at?”

“I just thought of something funny.” Ling Qing replied,

“Like?” Xiao Liu asked.

“Like someone praised me for looking good.”
